Atmos flies in to Manx Official Solar Switch-on

Braddan Commissioners, Isle of Man, have made massive energy and water savings with their latest initiative. As part of their energy efficiency policy for refurbishments, they installed two ‘ solar compatible’ condensing gas boilers linked to solar hot water heating systems. These show initial savings of approximately 60% fuel and 80% hot water. The water savings were made by the ‘keep hot’ facility of the new boiler. An independent report concluded that the use of solar power would provide significant energy efficiency savings. In conjunction with the replacement boiler programme, a trial project to fit a solar powered hot water system with a high efficiency boiler was selected. Local company Energy Management Systems were appointed as specialist sub contractor, who approached ATMOS Heating Systems for the specialist solution. The installation comprises an Atmos InterCombi HE32 condensing gas boiler matched with an Atmos MonoSolar solar hot water heating system. “I was particularly impressed with the minimal maintenance required of the combined system. The solar compatibility feature of the InterCombi is a big plus. Along with Braddan Commissioners, we are confident that this system will provide increasing savings for the next 15 to 20 years” said Rodger Harper from EMS. With figures like these, cost conscious householders and social landlords alike can have a solution that is friendly to their pocket as well as the environment.

Martin Quayle, ‘Middle MHK’ (equivalent of a UK mainland M.P.), performed the official switch on one of the two installations. Ralph Gregory & Peter Emblin of Atmos flew to Isle of Man to support Atmos Approved Installer EMS. Rodger Harper and Phil Kneen from EMS spent the day hosting ATMOS. Whilst Ralph gave valuable on site technical support to EMS installers, Peter was joining in with DJ Chris Williams’ Talking Heads programme on Manx Radio. After lunch Ralph and Peter were even treated to a drive round the legendry TT course – on 4 wheels!

Buster Lewin of the Braddan Commissioner is convinced of the need to ensure as many residents as possible can benefit from the installation of these SolarCombi systems. He sees this as the next step forward for the Commissioners to make further substantial energy efficiency savings. Martin Quayle was very interested in the potential benefits of the new solar installation for Braddan Commissioners and residents alike. Local resident Ernest Radcliffe sang the praises of EMS and the Atmos installation – lubricated with plenty of cups of tea. He was very impressed with the constant and immediate availability of the hot water. All in all; a flying success.
